James N. "Cotton Eyed Jim" Gregory

James N. "Cotton Eyed Jim" Gregory was born somewhere in South Carolina in the mid 1800's.  He and two sisters Sally and Renie came to North Carolina after a flu epidemic hit their family.  These three were the only ones of the family to survive.  It is said that he brought the first Cotton Jin to North Carolina.
He married  Elizabeth Jane Gregory (no relation) in Statesville, North Carolina in 1874.  If anyone has any information please contact me.  Thanks Phyllis

i have since found out that James Nulger Gregory was born about 1818.  He married Nancy Redding in Iredell County NC in 1850. I can find nothing about his prior family.
Thanks Phyllis
